What book should I read?

I haven’t read anything in a good while and that depresses me. What depresses me more is that I haven’t read anything good in even longer.

I love romance novels with a female main character. I love stories where the main character has to go through something difficult in their life, like a journey or some sort of lesson (ex. Gone with the Wind, Memoirs of a Geisha, Clan of the Cave Bear).

I also like adventure books, ha. I read A Salty Piece of Land by Jimmy Buffet and really loved it. So something similar to that would be welcomed.
NOT TWILIGHT. It sucks.

Jean M. Auel’s brilliant novels about Ayla and Jondolar are fasanating reads. THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR, VALLEY OF HORSES, MAMMOTH HUNTERS, PLAINS OF PASSAGE, and SHELTERS OF STONE. I personally can’t wait for for book 6!!

Who are your personal hero and anti-hero, with whom you identify most closely?

When in a good mood, my heroine is Ayla, the central character from Clan of the Cave Bear. She’s my heroine because she’s capable, athletic and overcomes all challenges while never giving up.

When in a not so good mood, my anti-hero is Richey Edwards because he was so beautiful, poetic, flawed and doomed.

So who are yours and why?

Can’t find a Xmas cartoon of a bear that finds evil creatures in a mountain cave plotting to destroy Christmas?

Little bear walks up a mountain and an earth quake causes him to fall into a deep crack and leads him to a cave where he finds some evil creatures called the Snurps who are plotting to sabotage Santa. He finds his way home to warn his bear clan and they team up and foil the creatures plans.

What are some things people have thought stars were?

I’ve read two books, one one The Clan of the Cave Bear ancient people thought stars were the hearth fires of the ancestors.

In another Emily of New Moon, they thought they might be holes cut out of a big violet cover and the cut outs were violets in the fields. (I don’t think they really thought that, but it was being poetic)

I thought both were lovely imaginings. Do you know of any others?

Clan of the Cave book…?

Does anyone know where I can find a character list for the book Clan of the Cave Bear? I need a COMPLETE list including all the minor characters. The only lists that I can find only has the main character (Ayla, Iza, Creb, Brun etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

did neandrethals really have those memories?

Reading Clan of the Cave Bear – I know Jean Auel put a great deal of research into her books, but I’m not sure how to separate fact from fiction. She shows the Neanderthals as having such huge memories – each being born with Vivid memories of all of his/her ancestors and all of the knowledge their ancestors accumulated… this sounds neat, but is it true?

the book was fantastic, by far my favorite book so i was wondering if the 3 or four other Earths Children books she wrote are the continuation of Clan of the Cave Bears.
